A Written Post From November 15th, 2018 - Gender Equality with Mental Illness
So I was on my way to work today reflecting on the past few days, since they’ve been a bit rough mental-health wise for me. And something snapped in me that I think is so worth talking about more.
As a feminist/fighter for gender equality, I’ve noticed that most mental health activists are women. I really think it’s because men these days are still conditioned to think they have to be invincible and tough 24/7. This really bugs me. Anxiety effects more than 3 million people per year. The key word there: PEOPLE. Not just women. Men deal with mental illnesses too. And that’s OKAY.
Men should be allowed to feel weak, anxious, depressed, sensitive, etc. I think we need to start raising girls and boys the same with no gender barriers so more men feel that it’s okay to speak out and get more help for themselves if needed. So men out there who deal with mental illnesses, we see you. We appreciate you. We’re WITH YOU. This is a safe space. Equality is a work in progress that will help and support everyone worldwide. In so many ways.
Much love,
